Joseph Morlan

I've appreciated your posts. Your classification details and info on background and reasons to becoming a threatened species are so welcome leading to greater understanding and clarification.
There are yellow eyed Boat-tailed Grackles in Florida too. The lst year males have black eyes…and have their glossy feathers, evidently not turning yellow until February. Are these yellow eyed Boat-tailed Grackles different subspecies?

Thank you

These showy blackbirds are common in wetlands and in settled areas
throughout Florida. This is a male.

Formerly lumped with the Great-tailed Grackle, this species was split by
the AOU in 1973 based on sympatric breeding in Louisiana. Eye color varies
geographically with the race Q. m. westoni having dark eyes. It is found
throughout peninsular Florida.
